This exhibition, which revolves
around the brilliant American sculptor Helena Bacardí,
is marked by fundamental references of Western art history: original
drawings by Michelangelo Buonarroti, as well as immaterial presences
such as the expression of Noguchi, Rodin, Henry Moore, and even
John Cage,
Beyond that, it is also a reflection that goes from stone to
robots, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality: matter and
the dematerialization of the material culture.
I was invited to compose this concert-installation - STAI - especially
for the occasion, as a kind of landscape music. It is dedicated
to Helena Bacardí and Roberta Semeraro.
This music is a journey through the nature of stone and of the
Western musical culture. And it is made in memory of my dear
friend and partner in so many projects over so many years, the
Swiss philosopher René Berger, who would have been 110
years old this year.
There is also a film - Verzasca - made with a photo essay I made
in 2009 in Val Verzasca, Ticino, Switzerland, dedicated to Helena
Bacardí and Graves Kielly, with a long excerpt from the
concert-installation STAI.
As if, in some sense, we were rescuing William Shakespeare or
Calderón de la Barca, this project makes me think of a
thought by Paul Valéry: "Space is an imaginary body,
just as time is a fictitious movement."
Life is a dream.
