18/6 - dedicated to Lucrezia De Domizio Durini - is the music permanently performed during the exhibition JOHN CAGE The Silence of the Music at the MART Contemporary Art Museum of Rovereto and Trento.

Years ago someone asked John Cage how would it be possible to compose without a piano. John Cage replied saying that he had his window faced to the streets of New York City, and that those sounds were enough. In 1985, Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta met John Cage at the International Biennial of Sao Paulo, in Brazil. In different concerts, both performed their music there. From that meeting, a friendship and collaboration were born, lasting up Cage's disappearance in 1992. In 2002, Emanuel Pimenta composed 18/6 using sounds recorded in New York City, around the 18th Street and the 6th Avenue, where Cage lived. It is a music specially composed for the exhibition "The Silence of the Music", created and co-ordinated by Lucrezia De Domizio Durini, at the MART - Contemporary Art Museum of Rovereto and Trento, in Italy. This large exhibition - with a photographic essay by Pimenta and his graphical virtual musical scores - integrated the European celebrations of the 10th anniversary of John Cage's disappearance. The event also included a concert, the launching of his book titled "John Cage", a series of conferences and the launching of different audio compact discs with Pimenta's music. 18/6 was originally conceived for two systems played independently, and by chance. Thus, the original performance at the MART Contemporary Art Museum could never be repeated. The composer specially made the recordings for the compact disc.

The compact disc is produced and published by ASA Art and Technology of London.
