Music for John is a collection of historical musical compositions created by Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta and dedicated to John Cage in his life-time. These pieces are the program of the concert performed at the MART Contemporary Art Museum of Rovereto and Trento. They are constantly referred in the book JOHN CAGE - The Silence of the Music and also in the letters by John Cage to Emanuel Pimenta.

The four compositions included in this compact disc were dedicated to John Cage. Concert for Frogs and Crickets, composed in 1984, was recorded in the Brazilian rain forests. Its structure was based on a motet composed by the French composer Guillaume de Machault, who lived between 1300 and 1377. Sun was made in 1986 using sound waves data from the Sun. It is as if we could listen to the sounds produced by the Sun. The piece titled Cage was composed in 1987. It uses the "metabolic" sounds of the city of Lisbon during a whole day and compressed into 13 minutes. Those sounds were worked inside a three-dimensional synergetic virtual structure of sound transformations. In 1991, I worked on Mesostic, where I captured the sounds of John's breath. All these pieces are mentioned in the book John Cage - The Silence of the Music, as well as in the letters exchanged with John. They were first performed in San Marino, as the beginning of the European celebrations of the 10th anniversary of John's disappearance. John Cage was not only an amazing composer and philosopher. He was a great human being. An unforgettable person, a marvellous soul.

Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta

It is only in the silence that it is possible to listen to the noise of everything... of the human... of Nature... animals... heart beats... In the attention to the listening, the music is born. A music that works with the creative freedom of the human being, using technology as culture appeared from the reality of the Present Time. Studies on the contemporary transformations have led the composer Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta to a new field of research, a new form of plastic-sonorous language that turns him a man of rare creative quality. The presence of music in his life is constant, controlled, sensorial, deliberately in the limit of all paradigm.

Lucrezia De Domizio, Baroness Durini

The compact disc is produced and published by ASA Art and Technology of London.
