From June 21st to the 23rd, 2007, the Second International Art and Science Meeting, The Spirit of Discovery, will take place in the ancient medieval village of Trancoso, Portugal. The first meeting of The Spirit of Discovery in May of 2006 included artists, scientists and philosophers from many countries. This year participants from Portugal, the United States, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, France and England will be represented. They are René Berger, Dove Bradshaw, Pedro Marijuán, Carmen Pardo, Jay Kappraff, Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta, Joseph Brenner, Rosemarie Castoro, Roy Ascott, Giorgio Alberti, António Cerveira Pinto, Leonello Tarabella and Audrey Riley. In addition to a series of lectures, there will be an exhibition by Dove Bradshaw (MOMA, MET, Whitney Museum, etc.), a concert involving virtual systems by Leonello Tarabella (Information Science and Technology Institute - National Council of Research, ISTI/CNR, Pisa, Italy) and a performance by the celebrated violoncellist Audrey Riley (John Cage, Gavin Bryars, etc.) in the city's Romanesque Church. The event will be free and includes simultaneous translation and transmission on the Internet. This International Meeting is part of the Arts, Sciences and Technology Foundation - Observatory and is directed by Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta.
