Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta PESSOA (1999) audio cd

PESSOA is the sixth individual compact disc by the composer Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta.

As a part of an installation of artworks by Irene Buarque, in Lisbon and Brussels, the concert titled Pessoa was composed using sounds captured in the streets of Lisbon, later transformed into digital MIDI data. The path in the streets were the same used by the poet Fernando Pessoa. In a second step, the digital MIDI data was converted into a structure inside virtual reality and, then, worked using mathematical principles. The cd PESSOA also includes Lisbon Revisited, composed by Pimenta in 1986. Lisbon Revisisted, works on vocal chords on a poem by Pessoa. The cd has two versions of Pessoa, one dated of 1996 and another one of 1998.

Emanuel Pimenta is commissioned composer for Merce Cunningham since 1986, and his pieces have been played by important musicians as John Cage, David Tudor, Takehisa Kosugi, the Manhattan Quartet, John Tilbery, Michael Pugliesi and Martha Mooke among others.
