The Spirit of Discovery in Trancoso, Portugal

Lisbon. Between May 18 and 21, 2006, it will be held at the town of Trancoso, in Northern Portugal, the first edition of an annual International Meeting of Art and Science titled The Spirit of Discovery. The event is promoted by the Arts, Sciences and Technology Foundation - Observatory (http://www.asa-art.com/facto.html), by the city of Trancoso, by the Hotel Turismo of Trancoso and by ASA Art and Technology, of London. Participants from the United States, England, Switzerland, Brazil, Poland, Portugal, the Netherlands and Hungary will discuss about the new discoveries of science and new trends in contemporary art and philosophy. The Meeting will have conferences, exhibitions and art installations. The participants are Roy Ascott, Joseph Brenner, Marcos Novak, Emanuel Pimenta, Dove Bradshaw, Monika Weiss, Giorgio Alberti, Francesco Mariotti, Alex Adriaansens, Gyorgy Darvas, Antonio Cerveira Pinto and Gonçalo Furtado. Monika Weiss will perform an art installation inside the 12th century castle of the city. René Berger, President of the Art Critics World Association, will make the opening, in real time, from Switzerland. Trancoso is near the city of Porto and offers, beyond an amazing cultural patrimony, very good hotels (http://www.hotel-trancoso.com/) and excellent restaurants. Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta is the co-ordinator of the Meeting.
